We are taking a different route home from Eureka today. We decided to head to Fort Bragg for lunch and hit Glass Beach. On the drive, we had to stop at the Bigfoot Museum, which was basically a map of Bigfoot sightings in the area and a gift shop. They had some funny redwood carvings--like a cool little house and Shrek and Donkey statues. After that stop, we took the road out to Fort Bragg, and we discovered it was on the windiest road EVER! We had to pull over for Tatum to puke a couple of times. She didn't take the drive well at all, but she perked up when we hit the restaurant.
We decided to eat lunch at the Laurel Cafe. It's a charming little mom and pop cafe with an historic steam engine inside. It was a nice stop, and lunch was really yummy.
After lunch, we drove down to Glass Beach. Apparently, there used to be a landfill in Fort Bragg in the 1950's (I think), and they dumped their trash into the ocean. Crazy, right? Well, nature went to work and turned trash to treasure. The whole beach is covered in sea glass. It's amazing.
The kids spent a good hour picking through sea glass on the beach. They picked through trash and tide pools, and explored rocks and crevices. They really seem to enjoy the beach.
They each brought back a handful of sea glass to take home. Cheap souvenirs.
Connor didn't pose for many pictures, but he really enjoyed skipping big pieces of sea glass across the little cove. We spent over an hour at Glass Beach before we packed up and headed back out. We're on the road again and bound for San Francisco. (sigh) We are in for a weekend of crazy traffic, scary tight parking spaces, and extravagant, expensive food that the kids will turn their noses up at. Tomorrow Connor plays his bass at the International Society of Bassists conference at San Francisco State University. We'll see if we can get a video of that posted. See you tomorrow!
