The Avenue of Giants - Part 1

Around Gerberville, we grabbed some Subway sandwiches and headed for the Avenue of Giants.  This was the part of the trip Justin and I were most excited for.  We came to the Chimney Tree first.  What a cool place.  It was located in Hobbiton (LOL), and it looked just like a hobbit house!

We played around in this tree, which was hollowed out by lightning--but still a living tree, for a few minutes before we said goodbye and headed down the road.

Then we hit the visitor's center and learned a bit more about the redwood forest and the animals that make their homes there.  There were some cool exhibits and a cross section of a giant redwood tree.  The girls always like the taxidermied animals.

And Tatum felt sorry for this poor coyote, who'd seen better days.

It was definitely worth a stop, and the kids enjoyed the stretch.  Then we loaded back up and headed out for our final stop on the Avenue of Giants--The Founder's Grove....
