Avenue of Giants - Part 2

Founder's Grove was the last part of our Avenue of Giants tour, and my personal favorite part of the redwood forest.  We saw the most amazing trees in Founder's Grove.  Unfortunately, the Founder's Tree was under construction.  They were building a terrace around it.  But we saw some other amazing trees.

Hello, Beastie!  This is what Connor referred to as the Kraken Tree.  That's the bottom of the tree.  It was uprooted, and those roots looked like arms.  They were really funky, and reminded Connor of the Kraken from Pirates of the Caribbean.

There were several fallen trees on the Founder's Grove trail.  Once you walked the length of those fallen trees, you could really get a feel for how tall those giant redwoods really are.  That's Rylee next to one of the fallen trees.  She looks pretty small, doesn't she?

The insides of some of the trees were big enough to fit Connor's bedroom into!  The kids especially enjoyed the hollowed out trunks, and it was amazing to see that they were still living.  Unfortunately, Tatum didn't share our fascination with the redwood forest.  She was ready to go within the first 2 minutes of starting the Founder's Grove trail.  Grrrr.....  So we finished out our hike and headed on to Eureka....
