Cannery Row and Dennis the Menace Park

After an afternoon at the beach, we decided to head down to Monterey's Cannery Row.  It was actually really, really cool.

There were so many neat shops up and down Cannery Row.  Tatum was on a mission for salt water taffy, though, so we were looking for a good candy shop first.

And look what she found!  She thought she'd died and gone to heaven.  They each picked out a couple of flavors of salt water taffy, and we sampled a few flavors.

Yum!

So, if you didn't know, Tatum is deathly afraid of sharks.  She watched one too many episodes of Shark Week, and she was adamant that she was NOT swimming in the ocean when we went.  In fact, it was quite a struggle to get her to agree to the beach.  We told her there were no sharks in Monterey.  Ha!  Almost every store we passed on Cannery Row had a shark in the window, and several were bragging about the number of sharks in the Monterey area.  Tatum wasn't thrilled to see this window sign.

After Cannery Row, we couldn't pass up the Dennis the Menace Park.  It was a very cool park designed by the creator of Dennis the Menace.

They even had an historic steam engine in the park.  The kids loved climbing all over it.  They even posed for a picture without being prompted.  I think they are getting this vacation thing down.  There was a rock wall, several tunnels, ziplines, and a suspension bridge.  The kids really enjoyed themselves.

But they were tired after a long day, so we said goodbye to Dennis and headed back to the hotel.  We've got a big day tomorrow.  We get to head up to San Francisco and see Uncle Rusty.  Golden Gate, here we come!
