The Museum of Making Music

We got a really late start today.  We knew that today was going to be rainy, and after the last two days, we were ready to lay low.  Justin and I went for a run on the beach, and the kids watched some TV.  Then we thought we would head to Old Town.  When I looked up one of the places we wanted to visit, I discovered it was closed on Wednesdays.  Sigh...  So we came up with Plan B--The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad.

We had wanted to visit this place back in June when we went on our long road trip, but it happened to be closed that day.  It was a nice way to spend a cold, rainy day.  They had displays of some really old instruments.  Connor really loves ragtime and jazz, and there were some great displays.

He was particularly happy to see this old upright jazz bass from the 1920's.

The girls liked the player pianos and the harp guitars.  And, of course, the drums...

There were several hands-on displays that the kids got to try out.  Connor could have played for hours.

And we were all laughing at this Lawrence Welk display.  This one is for you guys, Grandma Greta and Pardner!

Rylee and Kamryn were pretty dang disappointed that they didn't find a violin or cello in the place.  They came around in the interactive instrument room, though.

Even Justin got into it!

This little instrument only had three strings.  Perfect for Dad!  Haha.

It was a pretty small museum.  It only took us maybe an hour to get through.  It was worth a look, but a little on the pricey side.  The kids didn't want to do anything else today, so they are hanging out watching TV again.  The rain is really nice, and they are all getting along fabulously.  Owen and the family come in tonight, so tomorrow is a beach day!  Hooray!  Can't wait!
