Youth Symphony Results!

Just a quick post to brag on my amazing kids.  They got the results of their recent audition for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony.

Rylee made Division 4, and she couldn't be more excited.  She loved her conductor last year, Mrs. Alston.  Rylee made some great friends, and she is hoping to see them again and meet some new ones this year.  She was especially excited because our friends, The Zitos, are going to be joining us this year.  Kaitlyn auditioned this year, and she and Rylee will be playing cello together in Division 4.

Connor made Division 1, and I had to keep checking the envelope to made sure it was addressed right.  That is a huge jump--Division 1 is made up of mostly 8th and 9th graders.  The conductor seems like a very "no nonsense" kind of teacher--and we all know Connor likes to clown around.  Connor will have to work really hard this year, but we know he can do it.  He was very excited to have his friend, Cruise, make the same division AND they get to go to an orchestra retreat in October at Sky Y Ranch in Prescott.  How fun is that?

Tatum switched from violin to viola last month, so she is working very hard to learn a new clef.  Viola music is written on the alto clef rather than the treble, so it's been a bit of an adjustment.  She LOVES the viola, though, and has the most amazing sound.  Her teacher, who teaches both violin and viola, has told us over and over that Tatum was meant for the viola.  We're looking forward to her audition next year!

Here is the concert schedule for the year, which you can also find on the MYS website:

November 2, 2011 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center

December 1, 2011 at 7pm - Mesa Hilton Hotel

February 22, 2012 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center

May 1, 2012 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center

Tickets for all the Mesa Arts Center performances will go on sale sometime next week.  The Mesa Hilton concert is a holiday benefit concert.  Admission is free, but they ask you to bring a canned food donation for the local food bank.  Hopefully, we'll see some familiar faces at the concerts!
