Quick Trip to the Cabin

On Friday night, as I said "NO!" to watching tv and playing video games for the 100th time, it occurred to me that the kids really don't have many options in the summertime here in AZ.  If they want to play outside, they've got to swim.  So Justin and I decided to make a super quick, super cheap, trip to our family cabin in Christopher Creek.  The kids had strings auditions on Saturday morning and soccer games on Saturday afternoon, but as soon as those were done, we headed out.

We arrived to 70 degree weather and rain.  How awesome is that?  We didn't have much time that evening, but the kids immediately began digging out the cabin toys and making mud pies.

And, of course, there is always the swing!  Last year, when we were up here for Fall Break, Justin and the kids made a swing out over the hill.  There are inevitably lots of scrapes and bruises as they hit nearby trees, but the kids love swinging on this thing.

We spent the night, got up the next morning, and hit the creek.  The kids brought bathing suits and water shoes, although the rainy weather made it a little chilly for swimming.  The girls didn't seem to mind, and they got waist deep in a pool.  Sam and Connor weren't as brave.  They spent the afternoon rock hopping and checking out all the bugs and rocks.  Typical boys.

Justin had to be to work the next day, so we couldn't stay long.  It was raining when we reluctantly packed up the car and headed home less than 24 hours later.  It was a quick trip, but so worth it.  We had to miss a few things (sorry, Monica  :-(  ) to be here, but our schedule is so packed, there was no other way.  We're already racking our brains to clear some time off the schedule again to go back soon.
