I am super proud to tell you all the the chair results for MYS are in. The competition this year has been incredible... far greater than last year. I couldn't be more proud of my amazing kiddos!
Rylee made 5th chair cello (out of 13 cellos) this concert. There are quite a few new faces in MYS this year, especially in the cello section. Rylee was beat out by some amazing cello players, most of whom are much older than she is. She continues to make huge improvements in her playing, and we are so proud Rylee for holding her own in the midst of some crazy competition. One of our good friends, Kaitlyn Zito, made first chair cello. Congrats, Kaitlyn!!!
Connor made 3rd chair in Division 1 for this concert. That is an incredibly huge accomplishment. He has beat out many bassists who are much older and more experienced than he is, and we are so excited for him. This week his teacher also gave him a very difficult concerto to prepare him for his first competition ever! We are excited that Connor will be playing the Capuzzi bass concerto for the Bass Jam 2011 competition in December, and will most likely play it again for his February 4, 2012 MYS recital and scholarship competition.
I know lots of friends and family have been interested in seeing the kids play with the youth symphony. In case you didn't see my earlier post, here are the dates for the upcoming MYS recitals.
November 2, 2011 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center
December 1, 2011 at 7pm - Mesa Hilton Hotel
February 22, 2012 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center
May 1, 2012 at 7pm - Mesa Arts Center
Tickets for the Mesa Arts Center concerts are $7 each and are available now at the MAC box office. You can either go directly to the box office or purchase them online. The Holiday Pops Concert at the Mesa Hilton Hotel is free. We only ask that you bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.
And for those of you who are curious about the Capuzzi bass concerto... Here's a video I grabbed off YouTube to show you just how difficult this little piece is! (We don't know this guy from Adam, by the way. He just plays this piece well.) And Connor plays standing up, which makes playing slightly more difficult in the upper ranges. Good luck, Connor!
