Hike to Wind Cave

Justin and I decided to take the kids on a hike today, and we picked a pretty ambitious first hike for the kids. We set off for Usery Park to do the Wind Cave trail. The trail is 1.5 miles each way and gets pretty steep in places. We had to take a lot of breaks on the way up! We eventually made it, though, and it only took us 1 hour and 7 minutes--it would have taken much longer, but Justin was pretty persuasive with Tatum. She really drug her feet on the way up. Rylee, on the other hand, was really frustrated with all the stops and the slow place we had to take. She LOVES hiking and walking.

Once we got to the top, we took a break in the wind cave, and I snapped a picture of the gang. Unfortunately, all I had was my cell phone camera, but it still came out okay. The wind cave is a really cool little cave where you can see the water seeping out of the rocks. It's nice and cool up there, and it was the perfect place to take a break and look down on the city.

On the way down, all three kids took a tumble at some point, and there were lots of tears. All in all, though, they did pretty well for their first major hike. Everyone but Tatum is excited for the next one!
